Description
Berlin in 1980s Germany was a city torn apart by division. Yet, its ordinary residents found ways to live and survive on both sides. This novel explores their stories, each trying to find a way to escape but still trapped in their circumstances. The lives of those who 'escaped' back-and-forth between the east and west are woven together with the tale of one man who repeatedly leaps across the Wall. His actions are driven by a desire he cannot help himself, yet this only leads to further entrapment. As the walls inside his head prove more powerful than any physical barrier, he must confront the reality of his situation. Through its characters' struggles, the novel sheds light on the human experience in a city divided by politics and ideology.
