Description
The Three Marias (Texas Pan American Series) This translation brings to English-speaking readers the literary achievements of Rachel de Queiroz, a nationally known South American author whose books have been widely praised for their artistic merits. Her novels are coloured by her own experiences and social consciousness, offering a unique perspective on her native Brazil. Set in the seaport town of Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil, this story follows a girl growing up in the 1920s. The translation captures the author's graceful style and simplicity of language, conveying the idealistic and maturing spirit of its protagonist. Translated by Fred P. Ellison, this book provides an introduction to Queiroz's work for non-Brazilians, shedding light on her literary achievements and artistic vision.
