Description

The Group for Mutual Improvement by Jordan Baumgarten A collection of photographs documenting the gatherings of a diverse group of individuals who met in a vacant lot behind their homes in Philadelphia. Over the course of 10 years, these informal discussions covered topics such as morals, politics, philosophy, and local businesses. Inspired by the Junto, a group of individuals brought together by Benjamin Franklin in colonial era Philadelphia for mutual improvement, Baumgarten's book presents a unique perspective on community and connection. The photographs showcase the camaraderie and intellectual curiosity of these gatherings, which were often held in a vacant lot behind homes. Hardcover, 96 pages.
