Description

A brilliant reworking of the detective story by Michael Chabon. In "The Final Solution", Chabon crafts a short, suspenseful tale of compassion and wit that reimagines the classic 19th-century detective story. An 89-year-old man, now in deep retirement, is more concerned with his beekeeping than with other people. His life is disrupted by Linus Steinman, a nine-year-old mute boy who has escaped from Nazi Germany with an African grey parrot as his sole companion. The bird spews out mysterious strings of German numbers, leading to a series of questions about the meaning behind these codes. Subtle revelations lead to a wrenching resolution, leaving the reader to ponder the solution to this last case and the true explanation for the boy and his parrot.
