Description
A joyful celebration of Japanese cultural traditions and body positivity is at the heart of this picture book. A young girl visits a bath house with her grandmother and aunties, surrounded by the sights and sounds of traditional rituals. With a lyrical text and gorgeous illustrations, this book is an ode to the ties that bind generations of women together. The story begins as the girl walks down the street, accompanied by the sound of clip-clopping wooden sandals. She arrives at the bath house, where the preparations for the baths begin: hair washing, back scrubbing, and finally, the drumroll. As she enters the bath, she is surrounded by bodies of all shapes and sizes, each one unique and beautiful in its own way. Based on Kyo Maclear's loving memories of childhood visits to Japan, this picture book is a heartwarming celebration of family, culture, and self-acceptance.
