Description
Ensign Ash Miller's first command is a daunting task. Having survived the sinking of his previous ship, he is now tasked with bringing a new 110-foot wooden submarine chaser into commission and leading it to sea to protect Allied merchant vessels from German U-Boats. As Ash faces the deadly challenge ahead, he must weld an untried crew into an efficient fighting unit and develop both tactical sense and command authority. Alongside his crew of three officers and 27 men, Ash rescues stricken seamen, destroys Nazi mines, and fights U-Boats with understated courage and determination. During rare breaks in operations, Ash cherishes a developing relationship with Claire Morris, who embodies the peaceful ideal for which he has been fighting.
