Description

She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith is a comedy of manners that takes place in a single night and day. The story revolves around Young Marlow, who loses his way and arrives at the home of Squire Hardcastle, mistakenly believing it to be an inn. Marlow's encounter with the serving-girl Kate leads to a series of misunderstandings and eavesdropping behind a screen, but ultimately resolves in a pleasing manner. This enduring comedy has been a favourite among amateur and professional companies for over 230 years. With its lighthearted tone and witty dialogue, She Stoops to Conquer remains an entertaining read.
