Selected Tales contains some of the most enduring and enchanting folktales from European culture. Translated with an introduction by David Luke, these stories have captivated audiences for centuries.
The tales collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are notable for their memorable characters and themes, including outwitted villains, cruel stepmothers, and enchanted princesses. They depict a world of spells and bewitchment, where young people often face danger in dark forests or must navigate the consequences of making rash promises.
David Luke's vibrant translation is accompanied by an introduction that discusses the key themes and literary background of the Brothers Grimm's work. This edition represents Penguin Classics' long tradition of publishing authoritative texts from around the world, with introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors.
