Description

Robert Grosvenor: A Sculptor's Nuances Over a fifty-year career, Robert Grosvenor has produced a body of work that is both physically substantial and conceptually complex. His sculptures often incorporate industrial materials and found objects, resulting in pieces that reveal a handmade quality and subtle sense of humour. The Renaissance Society exhibition of Grosvenor's untitled work from 1989 to 1990 presented an intriguing assemblage of materials and found objects within a spare architectural installation. This re-contextualized presentation eludes interpretation while asserting its form and construction, evoking the labour of an "anonymous worker". This monograph documents the exhibition and features new scholarship on Grosvenor's work with a broad scope. Contributions from Yves-Alain Bois, Bruce Hainley, Susan Howe, John Yau, and Solveig Øvstebø provide valuable insights into the sculptor's oeuvre.
