Description
Aaron's life has been built around solitary routines since his brother's death. He moved from Dublin to Boston and overstayed his visa, creating a new life. Róisín, an Irish woman, also left her home country for the US, illegally overstaying her visa. When they meet on a night out, each finds in the other something missing - a sense of home. Their relationship is complicated by their different backgrounds and the harsh realities of everyday life. As they navigate their feelings for each other, Róisín discovers she's pregnant. This poignant story explores loneliness, love, loss, and identity, raising questions about belonging and family. With its nuanced portrayal of relationships and everyday exchanges, Placeholders is a powerful novel that makes a beeline to the heart. James Roseman's writing is confident, complex, and moving, making this debut novel a standout.
