Panza de burro

Panza de burro is a phenomenon characteristic of the north of the Canary Islands, where low-hanging clouds act as a solar screen. Andrea Abreu delves into this concept and explores the lives of three women: an abuela who imparts questionable advice from a place of innocence and savagery, a prematurely grown girl who dominates her friend, and a gentle friend who eventually writes about her experiences and feels indebted to her more assertive counterpart.

Initially, Abreu envisioned Panza de burro as a simple yet beautiful novel that would cut through the greenhouse effect of societal expectations. However, she soon discovered that the book was far more complex and nuanced than she had anticipated. The author's intelligence, poetic pulse, and fearlessness made for a rich and multifaceted work.

Published in 2020, Panza de burro is a thought-provoking exploration of human relationships and the complexities of female experience. With its intricate and painful beauty, this novel is sure to resonate with readers who appreciate honest and unflinching portrayals of life.
