Description

This collection of essays explores the key sources of the Marxist critique of capitalist civilization and offers a unique understanding of socialism as the only truly human alternative to exploitation and oppression.

Michael Löwy examines the role of romanticism in shaping this perspective, drawing on the work of Rosa Luxemburg, Antonio Gramsci, and Walter Benjamin. He also engages with themes such as religion, utopia, and other topics, revealing a shared understanding among these thinkers of socialism as a necessary response to the modern forms of oppression found in capitalist society.

This insightful collection sheds new light on neglected areas of Marxist literature, providing a fresh perspective on the possibilities of socialism and its relevance to contemporary debates.
