Description
Standing atop a mound of rocks, Mildred Cable wrapped her blue padded jacket tightly around her and squinted against the sand-laden wind. To her right, the Great Wall stretched east for fourteen hundred miles until it reached the Yellow Sea. Before her lay the vast Gobi Desert, a place few Europeans had ever ventured into. Mildred Cable was an Englishwoman who served the people of China through wars and revolutions. She once planned to be a concert pianist, but instead she followed Jesus with grit, determination, intelligence, and faith. Whether speaking truth to power, educating generations of Chinese girls, or building self-sustaining Christian communities, Mildred's life was marked by courage and conviction. This book tells the story of Mildred Cable's remarkable journey across the Gobi Desert, where she lived among diverse peoples in northwestern China for years.
