Description
Opera-inspired stories from some of modern fiction's most acclaimed writers come together in this unique anthology. Jeanette Winterson invited her contemporaries to choose an opera and write a story inspired by its music, characters or plot.
The result is a collection of comedies, tragedies and tales of love won or lost, showcasing the breadth and depth of contemporary fiction. With stories from authors such as Kate Atkinson, Alexander McCall Smith and Ruth Rendell, this anthology offers a diverse range of voices and perspectives.
Each story is accompanied by notes explaining its connection to an opera, along with a brief synopsis and history of where and when it was first performed. The book also features new illustrations from Posy Simmonds, adding to the richness and atmosphere of this special collection.
