Description
Malachite is an ancient city floating in a shallow sea, its survival dependent on a sacred ritual known as Aequora. This annual ceremony brings new life to the city and offers a chance for exiles, outlaws, and orphans to become citizens of Malachite. The city's male population relies on this ritual for its continued existence. Marion Casterline is the highwarden of Malachite, responsible for maintaining peace in the city after a brutal gang war. He has a complicated past with Jean Rivard, who was once his lover and partner in destroying the violent Teschio gangs that ruled the city's underworld. When Marion announces his engagement to Kon Sessane's son, Jean is left feeling hurt and resentful. As tensions rise in the slums, Jean realizes that he is the only man who can prevent war from devouring the city he loves. A charismatic rebel leader has kindled a revolt, and Jean must confront his past and work with Marion to prevent disaster.
