Description
Mai and the Missing Melon by Sonoko Sakai is a heartwarming story about the special bond between a young girl and her grandmother. In 1960s Japan, Mai embarks on an adventure to share a sweet muskmelon with her obachama, but loses it along the way.
As she waits for news of the melon's whereabouts, Obachama shares a Japanese folktale about The Stone Buddhas, teaching Mai about the power of good intentions. Eventually, the melon is found, and Mai and her grandmother can enjoy it together.
This charming story celebrates the cherished relationship between a young girl and her grandmother, set against the beautiful backdrop of rural Japan. With its expressive art and personal touches from the author's childhood memories, this book invites readers on a journey through the Japanese countryside.
