Description
Fiona Watson's authoritative and compelling narrative sheds new light on the life of Macbeth, ruler of Alba (Scotland), whose story has been shrouded in myth for centuries. Contrary to popular perception, Macbeth was not solely driven by ambition and violence, but rather played a crucial role in maintaining his people's dominance over northern Britain. As a Celtic warrior-king, Macbeth was responsible for the maintenance of his people's power and was a friend to the Church. His reign was marked by effective governance and popular support, making him an exemplary model of vigorous medieval kingship. Watson's meticulous research uncovers a fascinating story that challenges the traditional narrative surrounding Macbeth. This book provides a fresh perspective on one of history's most enduring figures, offering a nuanced understanding of the complexities of medieval politics and society.
