Description

Lyonel Feininger Retrospective presents a comprehensive portrait of the artist's work, featuring 140 paintings, drawings, caricatures, watercolors, woodcuts, and other art objects drawn from across his creative phases. This volume includes previously unreleased photographs and excerpts from the diary of his wife, Julia, offering new insights into Feininger's artistic development. The book accompanies a 2023 retrospective at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and features contributions by an international group of scholars discussing key aspects of Feininger's work. Recent research on photography's significance in his creative process is also explored, alongside evaluations of his early paintings. With this extensive collection of art objects and scholarly analysis, Lyonel Feininger Retrospective provides a detailed understanding of the artist's oeuvre, making it an essential resource for those interested in modern art and design.
