Description
The Institute for Advanced Study was founded in 1930 with a vision for America's future and its system of higher education. Sibling philanthropists Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld supported this ambitious project, guided by education expert Abraham Flexner. This independent institution welcomed scholars from diverse backgrounds, including those fleeing persecution. It became a haven for Jewish intellectuals, such as Albert Einstein, who remained on the permanent faculty until his death in 1955. Other notable luminaries, including J. Robert Oppenheimer and Kurt Gödel, also called the Institute home. The Institute's commitment to inclusivity and intellectual pursuit made it an attractive destination for scholars from various fields.
