Description
Janey Everett arrives in a remote Hawaiian surfing village to research a biography of Sam Mallory, a loyalist forces pilot who disappeared during the Spanish Civil War. Her investigation leads her to Irene Lindquist, the owner of an island-hopping airline, whom she believes may be the legendary Irene Foster, Mallory's former student and flying partner. As Irene recounts her extraordinary life, from her early days as a flyer in Southern California to her complicated relationship with Mallory and her marriage to a publishing scion, Janey's past begins to surface, drawing the two women into a heart-stopping confrontation over Mallory's legacy. The discovery of Mallory's airplane wreck in a Spanish desert sets Irene's story in motion, revealing the details of Foster's remarkable life. As Irene spins her tale, Janey's own history gathers power, raising questions about the lives we might have lived and the losses we must come to terms with. A gripping narrative unfolds as two women confront their pasts and the mystery of Mallory's disappearance.
