Description

Hugh Gwynne's most difficult case has finally come to court. His client Tom Deacon is claiming damages for post-traumatic stress after a car accident in which he witnessed the death of his young daughter by fire. As the case progresses, it seems certain that Tom will win the compensation needed to rebuild his shattered life. However, Hugh receives an anonymous letter that throws him into an impossible dilemma. To stay on the case would be unethical, while withdrawing could threaten its success. The situation is complicated further by the contrast between their lives: Tom's struggles with flashbacks and joblessness, versus Hugh's seemingly blessed existence as a solicitor and husband. The life of one man is forever changed when his own happiness is snatched away, leaving him to face a lifetime of troubling memories.
