Description

Cecile Pineda's novel "Face" is a powerful exploration of identity and its fragility. Based on an actual event, the story follows a young Brazilian man who loses his face in a tragic accident, leading to a devastating loss of his sense of self. As he struggles to come to terms with his new reality, Helio Cara undergoes a desperate attempt to reconstruct his face and identity using novocaine. This haunting and thought-provoking novel is a compelling metaphor for the human experience, one that has been widely taught in American and Latino literature courses. With a foreword by Nobel Prize-winning author J.M. Coetzee and an exclusive interview with the author, this expanded edition of "Face" offers a unique insight into Pineda's work and its enduring themes.
