Description
Corridor Media Architectures in American Fiction explores the relationship between architectural space and modern American fiction. By examining fictional descriptions of everyday structures, Kate Marshall reveals a hidden network of connections between corridors and novels.
The corridor is a dominant organizational structure in modern architecture, yet its functions are often overlooked. Marshall demonstrates how even the most mundane structures become visible in the communication systems of American fiction, shedding new light on the nature of modern media.
This book develops a new idiom for Americanist literary criticism, explaining how media studies can inform our understanding of modernist literature. It offers a fresh look at late naturalist fiction and portrays media as not only objects but processes.
