Description
Published in 2017 to coincide with the Archaeological Society of Athens' 180th anniversary, Chronography presents a unique collection of photographs taken by American photographer Robert McCabe during his visits to Greece in 1954 and 1955.
The images showcase the dramatic changes that have taken place in Greece over the past 60 years, from monuments before restoration to villages transformed by social change. McCabe's photographs capture the intricate details of ancient sites, revealing the play of light and shadow on worn stone and the everyday lives of people long forgotten.
Through his poetic eye, McCabe's photographs provide a precious record of a lost world, one that few remember today. This collection is a poignant reminder of the power of photography to capture the essence of time and place.
