This book interrogates the paradigms that stymie critical appreciation of Wilson's work both with the Beach Boys and as a solo artist. It explores lyrical themes and musical motifs in a topical organization, allowing discussion outside of prejudicial presumptions about their place in his career. The chapter on lyrics examines questions of quality, including why the words to Wilson's songs are often considered a detriment.
