Description
Calvin Dill Wilson's short book explores an often-overlooked aspect of American history: the ownership of slaves by free African-Americans in the South before the Civil War.
African-Americans, who had once been enslaved themselves, became slave-owners, buying and selling members of their own race. This phenomenon is revealed through Wilson's research, which sheds light on a previously obscure period in American history.
Wilson's work provides new insights into the complexities of slavery in the United States, highlighting the often-overlooked role of free black slaveholders in the institution.
