Description

Eleven-year-old Suzy feels like she's constantly losing out. Her brother is a hero for calling 911 after seeing their elderly neighbor collapse, and her best friend landed a role in the play they both auditioned for. Feeling overlooked, Suzy turns to Emily Dickinson, the subject of her summer project, for inspiration. Suzy decides to emulate the poet's life of solitude: no visitors or phone calls, just letters delivered through her window; no friends, except her goldfish, Ottilie; and no outings, except church in her long white dress. But being a recluse is harder than Suzy predicted. Can she find a way to balance Emily's quiet life with her own needs? As Suzy navigates this new path, she must confront the challenges of solitude and self-discovery.
