Description

AfriCOBRA: Messages to the People is a major publication celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the influential art collective founded in Chicago in 1968. The group, known as AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists), was formed by five young Black artists who shared a common aspiration to create work that speaks directly to Black people using an identifiably Black aesthetic. This publication features more than 80 works by the original members and guest artists, showcasing the collective's powerful relevance today. The book documents two exhibitions curated by Jeffreen M. Hayes, PhD, one at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami and another as part of the 58th Venice Biennale.
