Description

High Wood, a 75-acre woodland in the heart of the Somme battlefields, played a pivotal role in one of the most brutal conflicts of World War I. This insightful publication delves into the history of the battles for High Wood and its environs, exploring the British Army's struggle to eject the German occupiers and the lessons learned from this experience.

Through detailed maps and photographs, the book brings the battlefield to life, allowing visitors to locate specific sites with precision. The numbered grid system used during the High Wood battles is also explained, enabling readers to pinpoint the exact location of events that took place 100 years ago.

This publication offers a unique perspective on the Somme's most significant dates and the amateur British Army's efforts to break through the German defenses. With its blend of historical context and practical information, High Wood provides a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding this pivotal moment in history.
